Camera and audio

Your camera, microphone, and your Mac's sound are recorded to their own files, so everything about them can be changed after recording.

Recording

Turn on Camera, Microphone, or System audio in the recorder and pick a device from each row's menu. Any microphone works, including AirPods and other Bluetooth headsets. The camera records at 720p when it supports it.

The camera bubble

In the editor's Camera tab:

  • Shape (circle, rounded square, or Original, which keeps the camera's own proportions), size (12–45%), position, mirroring, and shadow.
  • Background: Blur softens the room behind you; Remove cuts you out over the screen; Image puts a picture you choose behind you. All run on your Mac and work best with even light.
  • Look: Natural, Warm, Cool, Vivid, Mono, or Film, with a strength slider, plus Sharpen.
  • Move out of the pointer's way slides the bubble to the other corner when the pointer goes under it.
  • Hide while I'm not talking fades the bubble out during pauses of 1.5 seconds or more.
  • Keep my face centered frames the camera on your face as you move.

Layouts

Layout sections switch parts of the video to Split (screen and camera each take half the frame), side by side, camera only, or screen only, with a short crossfade. Split the whole clip sets up a vertical tutorial in one step: a 9:16 canvas, a split over the whole clip, and captions on the seam.

Audio

In the Audio tab, each track has mute, volume (0–200%), and fade in and out.

  • Clean up voice removes background noise and room echo.
  • Sound: Podcast also evens out your voice so quiet words come up and it sounds close.
  • Click sounds adds a soft click at each recorded click.
  • Choose Music… adds a background track that loops under the whole video and fades in and out.
