Cuts, trims, and speed
Remove what you don't need and speed up the slow parts. Nothing is deleted from your recording, so every change can be undone or restored.
Trim
Drag the handles at either end of the clip, type In and Out times, or press I and O to set them at the playhead.
Cut a section
- Move the playhead to where the part to remove starts and press X (or click Cut).
- Move to where it ends, by playing, scrubbing, or clicking. The section is outlined in red.
- Press X again (End cut here). Everything in between is removed.
It works in either direction, and Esc cancels. The cut collapses to a red ✂ marker on the timeline. Click a marker to Restore the section or Adjust Edges; ⌘Z also brings it back.
Remove pauses and fillers
In the Timing tab, Remove pauses & fillers finds silences longer than the length you choose and, once you have captions, words like “um” and “uh”. Review the suggestions on the timeline and in the list, then remove the ones you pick in one step.
Edit by transcript
After transcribing (see Captions and transcript), click Edit Video… to edit the video as text: select words and click Cut.
Speed sections
Press S to play a section at 2×, then drag it into place and set anything from 0.25× to 8× in the Timing tab. Sped-up sections are muted unless you turn on Keep audio. Speed up typing plays every long stretch of typing at 3× (it needs a recording made with All keys keystroke capture).
